Indium + The Salvation Army Adopt-a-Family Program

The holidays can bring added monetary and emotional stress to families living in poverty. Each year, families are faced with an unimaginable decision of putting food on the table or giving their children gifts, which is why the Salvation Army of Ohio holds the Adopt-a-Family program.

Every holiday season, the Adopt-a-Family program provides Christmas joy and hope to hundreds of families throughout Ohio. The Salvation Army is projected to provide over 41,500 gifts to families in need this holiday season through their programs.

What is “Adopt-A-Family” and how does it work?

The program matches a family in need with a sponsor who fulfills their family Christmas list. Each year, our team takes a day to shift our focus away from work and gear it toward giving back to our "adopted" family. We run around Target and have fun, dressed in our finest holiday apparel, all fueled by doing a really great thing for another family. This experience allows us to take a moment away from ourselves and our work, to focus on those who may not be as fortunate. It’s such a rewarding bonding experience, and gives us a chance to contribute toward The Salvation Army Mission - “to meet human need wherever, whenever, and however we can”.

How did Indium get involved?

This year marked our 7th year working with the Salvation Army of Ohio's Adopt-A-Family program. The idea was brought to Indium in 2014 by CEO Chad Eddy; he had done it with his team at his previous company, and it was such a positive experience for everyone involved that he wanted to bring the tradition to his new team. Fast-forward 7 years later, and the trip not only lives on, but is heavily anticipated by all involved. It’s a time for the team to bond over something much bigger than ourselves: giving back.

"Having a Christmas list right in front of you and knowing there is a family on the other side and we are able to directly help them is a really amazing thing", says Chad Eddy.

We're already excited to get together for Adopt-A-Family shopping again next year!
